This matchup will likely go down in professional hockey history as the game with the most exciting opening two minutes — ever.

Reviving their scrappy history, the Bruins and the Stars dropped the gloves on three different occasions in the first four seconds (yes, seconds) of their matchup at the TD Garden on Thursday night. The three bouts clearly energized the Boston squad, as they went on to score back-to-back goals just 45 seconds apart.

Greg Campbell and Steve Ott got things started just one second into the matchup, with Campbell getting a bit bloody from a few good hits from Ott, who leads the league in penalties.

Bruins bruiser Shawn Thornton and Krys Barch followed up that performance with a scrap of their own at the 19:58 mark, with Thornton sending Barch immediately to the locker room with his fists.

Youngster Adam McQuaid couldn’t wait to get in on the action, as he and Brian Sutherby dropped the gloves four seconds in. The B’s got the edge in that bout as well, as McQuaid downed Sutherby in his ninth fight of the year.

The B’s capitalized on their momentum with back-to-back goals from Milan Lucic and Patrice Bergeron. Lucic’s blast came at the 19:25 marker of the first, while Bergeron tapped in his 18th goal of the year just 45 seconds later.

Andrew Ference joined the crowded penalty box when he and right winger Adam Burish squared off at 16:09.

Let’s just say this one is far from over folks. Be sure to check in after the game for the complete highlights and the recap of all the Big Hits of the night.
