Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire Together at Last, But Are Knicks Instant Contenders? After what felt like 17 years of trade gossip, Carmelo Anthony is finally a New York Knick. At the very least, we can all be happy that there will be no more rumors, no more “breaking news” segments and no more mindless chatter about the future of the 26-year-old superstar.

Knicks fans are excited for a whole different reason, as they’re now believing that their team is a serious title contender. Is that excitement justified?

On the surface — sure. Amare Stoudemire is averaging 22 points and nine rebounds and Anthony scores 25 a night. Add in a still-effective Chauncey Billups, and the Knicks are no joke.

But will Carmelo sign a long-term extension? Is this just a three-month charade? Will the new-look Knicks struggle to develop chemistry?

These answers and more, coming to a basketball court near you.

Quote of the day

“Carmelo hasn’t cracked the top 5 in league jersey sales for the last 5 seasons. With Knicks, he’ll do it.”
–CNBC’s Darrell Rovell, via Twitter, regarding the anticipated rush for Carmelo Anthony’s Knicks jersey. His prediction appears accurate, as “Carmelo Anthony Knicks jersey” was the fourth-most popular Google search on Tuesday morning.

Liverpool fans who comment on NESN.com are just so darn polite.

“Dear Emozez: As a local baseball fan, you can be forgiven for not understanding, nor caring, about Liverpool from a single fan’s perspective. However, NESV/Fenway Sports Group have recognized it’s far greater attraction worldwide. Liverpool are one of a handful of truly big clubs, with a fan base the Red Sox would salivate over. It’s simple. Football (what you term soccer) is the largest sport worldwide and is unstoppable. Biggest enemy is crass money making approach and prices getting beyond regular fans. Liverpool’s fan base extends globally which means moolah for FSG. If it detracts from your enjoyment at Fenway currently I think it’s only because the BB season hasn’t started. Hang in there! PS Lot’s of kids can make it in footbal where they’d not get a chance in BB. The USA will win the World Cup in a few years and then you will truly have a problem as baseball does not have such fervour or attraction for the masses of kids (of all sizes) nationwide anymore. It’s simply a more universally ‘playable’ sport at all levels. I don’t think that detracts from Baseball’s unique appeal at all. Baseball has it’s own issues!”
