A veteran defenseman is exactly the chip that many contending teams need to reach a level where they can really compete for a Stanley Cup. That's why so many teams are interested in Senators rearguard Chris Phillips.

Yet, Phillips, who has a no-trade clause, isn't eager to leave the Senators, who have the second-worst record in the entire NHL.

"I do [want to stay in Ottawa] and I know people will call me crazy for saying that, but I think you need some veteran guys that have been around to help and guide the young guys coming in," Phillips told the Ottawa Sun. "I'm OK and would take on that responsibility."

The 32-year-old Phillips has been a Senator since the 1997-98 season, so his loyalty is understandable. However, it's not every day that an opportunity to hoist Lord Stanley's Cup presents itself, so general manager Bryan Murray may be able to convince the veteran of agreeing to a deal.
