Kenny Dalglish appears to be in the market for a first-choice left back and Celtic’s Emilio Izaguirre and Newcastle’s Jose Enrique have been rumored to be targets.

Liverpool is thin at left back with Glen Johnson playing out of position, Fabio Aurelio appearing to be more of a squad player than first choice, and Emiliano Insua and Paul Konchesky seeming unlikely to be given such a role either.

Dalglish watched Izaguirre in Celtic’s 3-0 win over Rangers on Sunday — an impressive performance for the 24-year-old Honduran international who has settled very well since being signed this past summer. According to Daily Mail, Celtics asking price for Izaguirre would be in the vicinity of £4.5million ($7.3 million).

Enrique has also repeatedly been linked with a move to Anfield. Manchester United were reported to be interested as well, but after the Red Devils signed Patrice Evra to a long-term deal this past weekend, their need for the former Spain Under-21 international has been dampened. Contract talks between Enrique and Newcastle have stalled, but his price tag may be steep, around £12 million ($19.4 million), as Italian giants AC Milan are apparently also in the picture.

Fabio Coentrao, of course, has been widely considered the top target at the position, though his asking price may reach astronomical levels given the amount of interest in the young Portuguese star.
