Chelsea's latest addition Fernando Torres learned Sunday that his former team is not going down without a fight.
Torres told the media following the match that his team was surprised by the play of Liverpool, especially when manager Kenny Dalglish chose to play with three central defenders, ESPN.com reports.
"It was very difficult, Liverpool played a good game, with three at the back," he said. "We were not expecting that and maybe they took advantage of that."
Torres left the Reds in a £50 million ($80 million) transfer to Chelsea on Jan. 31, and did not get a warm reception from the Liverpool fans in attendance at the away game. Raul Meireles did, however, as he scored the only (and game-winning) goal for the Reds in the match.
This wasn't exactly the way Torres wanted to debut with his new team in front of the home crowd, but he said the loss didn’t take away from his first experience as a member of the Blues.
"Obviously everyone wants to win, especially if it is their first game at home, but I will still have very good memories about my reception here and want to thank all of the Chelsea fans for that nice reception," Torres said. "The result was not the best, but we have to keep going and fighting until the end."
He added that he didn’t think the loss negatively affected Chelsea's chance for a title run.
