Josh Beckett Reports to Spring Training, Has 'Noticeable Improvement' in Physical Condition

The Red Sox’ starting rotation has a few question marks coming off of a tough 2010 season, but after watching a few of the pitchers at spring training on Thursday, it’s clear that they are starting to move back in the right direction.

Josh Beckett, John Lackey and Daisuke Matsuzaka were all noted arrivals in Fort Myers on Thursday, and Boston Globe reporter Peter Abraham had good things to say about all three starters. According to Abraham, who called in to Thursday’s edition of NESN Daily via Skype, all three starters had very positive initial reports upon their first day at the training grounds.

Beckett has reportedly dropped some weight from last season, where he struggled with a 6-6 record and a 5.78 ERA, and he’s moving around quite well considering he was sidelined with a back injury for much of 2010.
