NHL Trade Rumors Live Blog: Capitals Claim Marco Sturm Off Waivers

7:00 p.m.: As NESN.com's Doug Flynn points out, the Bruins have announced that Shane Hnidy has signed a one-year deal with the Boston Bruins.

More on that soon.

The Florida Panthers sent Brian McCabe to the New York Rangers Saturday for forward Tim Kennedy and a third-round draft pick in this year's draft, reported the Associated Press.

1:30 p.m.: The Islanders have put forward Rob Schremp and goaltender Nathan Lawson on waivers, says Newsday.

1 p.m.: The Flyers have claimed Chicago defenseman Nick Boynton off waivers.

12:30 p.m.: The Kings didn't think it would happen, but it did. According to Pierre LeBrun, the Caps have claimed Marco Sturm off waivers.

Also, Columbus has claimed Sabres defenseman Craig Rivet off re-entry waivers.

11 a.m.: According to ESPN, Florida's Bryan McCabe could soon be on his way to the Rangers, as he is apparently now willing to release his no-trade clause.

10:30 a.m.: The Tampa Bay Lightning are looking to bring in a forward, but they don't want to send away any more draft picks, according to TampaBay.com.

Sabres forward Mike Grier is a name that has been floated to fill that void.

10 a.m.: According to the Ottowa Sun, Chris Phillips could decide about his future as early as Saturday, and what he chooses will have major implications as far as the Senators' deadline plans are concerned.

If Phillips decides against an extension, then it seems likely that he'd lift his "no move" clause and be traded to a contender. If he opts to stay, then Chris Campoli or Filip Kuba would likely be on the move.

9 a.m.: Both the Kings and Blackhawks waived players on Friday — Marco Sturm and Nick Boynton respectively — and neither club expects the player to be claimed.

As a result, each team should be able to assign the player to an affiliate, each will have created the financial flexibility to add a piece for a potential title run. The Blackhawks are said to be after a defenseman, with the names Mike Commodore, Craig Rivet, Jim Vandermeer, Ladislav Smid and Brett Clark floated in the Chicago Sun Times. The Kings are said to be after a top-six forward.
