Brent Johnson Comes to Matt Cooke's Rescue, KO's Rick DiPietro in Rare Goalie Fight Goalie fights are few and far between — the last one happened in the NHL in 2007 — so hockey fans will probably be disappointed by the outcome of the latest goaltending bout.

On Wednesday night in Pittsburgh, Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro bit off more than he could chew when he decided to drop the glove and blocker to fight Penguins backup goalie Brent Johnson.

The scuffle was started after DiPietro was the cause of a small scrum in the closing seconds of New York’s 3-0 loss to the Pens. DiPietro gave Penguins tough guy Matt Cooke a bit of a bump as he went by. As two Islanders went after Cooke, Johnson skated the length of the ice, meeting DiPietro in front of the Islander net and promptly dropped DiPietro with a left hand.
