Ray Allen Surpasses Reggie Miller's Record of 2,560 3-Pointers During First Quarter Against Lakers The Garden crowd was cheering for it, erupting with excitement every time Ray Allen lined up behind the arc.

It didn't take long for the Celtics' shooting guard to connect for that milestone shot, matching Reggie Miller's record of 2,560 3-pointers during the first quarter. His first 3-point attempt rattled in and out of the hoop, drawing a huge groan from the crowd, but on his second attempt — he nailed it.

It was the perfect situation, as the Celtics were playing on their home court against the rival Lakers in front of Miller, who was calling the nationally televised game on TNT. Leading up to the game, Miller said he was hoping Allen would reach the milestone on Thursday night, and he was just as eager as the crowd while sitting on the sidelines.

Miller was thrilled when Allen connected for the tying trey, and was nearly knocked out of his chair by his fellow announcers. The TNT broadcaster noted that Allen's eyes lit up when he nailed the 3, a rare sight for the 15-year NBA veteran, who normally keeps his emotions in check out on the court.

Allen surpassed the record just mintues later, when Rajon Rondo came away with a Lakers' turnover and led the Celtics attack down the court. Rondo found Allen wide open at the top of the arc — just in front of the Celtics bench — and Allen nailed the shot that he has taken so many times in his career.

Once the whistle blew, Allen trotted over to the sidelines where Miller was waiting with a congratulatory hug. When asked if he was upset at all that his record was broken, Miller replied with the perfect response: "All records are meant to be broken."
