This wasn't the name everyone in Boston has been dreaming of.
The name is Troy Murphy, and according to Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix, he could soon be a member of the Boston Celtics.
"Boston and Miami are the front-runners to sign soon-to-be free agent Troy Murphy, league sources tell SI," Mannix reported via Twitter on Wednesday morning.
Murphy is a 30-year-old power forward for New Jersey, where he averaged 16 minutes, 3.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per night. At 6-foot-11, 245 pounds, Murphy would add size to the Celtics' frontcourt, though that may not be their biggest area of need. With Marquis Daniels perhaps out for the rest of the year, the team would still be lacking a solid backup for Paul Pierce, even if Murphy is acquired.
When he gets minutes, Murphy can be effective. He averaged double-doubles in consecutive seasons, from 2008-10, for the Nets. In those two years, he averaged roughly 14 points and 11 rebounds per game. He's making $11.97 million this season.
Murphy is reportedly going to be involved in a trade to Golden State, where he played from 2001-07. The Warriors are expected to buy him out, thereby making him a free agent.
