Last season, the Red Sox took a chance on Carlos Delgado, but despite all the team's injuries, he still never saw the playing field after being signed.

However, this upcoming season, Delgado hopes to return and be full-speed by spring training, according to MLB.com.

"If I am healthy, I will find a way," said Delgado. "I know how to play. I don't want to retire. The reason why I put myself through three surgeries in 18 months is because I want to play. Otherwise, I would have just hung it up."

The former first baseman is still recovering from surgery on his left hip, which kept him from getting called up from Pawtucket to Boston, but that shouldn’t prevent him from rehabilitating and making a healthy return.

"The rehab is coming along, and I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing," he said. "I would say within the next couple of weeks I will have a better idea of when I'm going to be ready because we are going to start sprinting a little bit and I'm going to take batting practice a little bit more often. Right now, it's every other day or every two days just because you just go gradually into it."

In five games and 15 plate appearances with Pawtucket, Delgado had a .231 batting average with just two RBIs and no extra base hits.

Delgado has 473 career home runs, just 27 short of the 500-home run milestone. He has not played in the majors since May of 2009.
