After just six professional seasons, former Patriots cornerback Ellis Hobbs, who sustained his second serious neck injury in the past two years during a kick return this past October, is hanging up his helmet and spikes for good.
After the injury, there were rumors that the Philadelphia Eagle may have to call it quits, and now that decision looks inevitable.
Adam Caplan of Fox Sports wrote in his NFC East off season breakdown that the 27-year-old will in all likelihood call it a career.
"The veteran cornerback will retire because of his second serious neck injury in the past two seasons. This one, a source said, will end his career because it’s higher up in his neck. He has a pretty good career in broadcasting waiting if he wants to pursue it. He gave excellent analysis during the season on Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia after he got hurt."
Hobbs was selected out of Iowa State in the third round by the Patriots in 2005. He played four seasons with the Patriots before being traded to Philadelphia just before the 2009 draft. It should be noted that during his time with the Pats, Hobbs played in all but one of the 64 games.
