Prior to his £1.85 million January transfer from PSV to Barcelona, 24-year-old Dutch international Ibrahim Afellay had been linked with a move to Anfield.

Now, after starting just one match and being used generally only as a late substitute in La Liga, rumors of Affelay leaving Barcelona in the summer have begun to surface, with Liverpool again linked as a potential destination.

According to Daily Mail, reports in the Spanish press indicate that the Reds are readying a £8.5 million bid for Affelay, a figure that would still be a discount from his £13 million value, per transfermarkt.co.uk.

Arsenal, however, is also interested in the Dutch international, and apparently offered PSV £7.5 million for him this past summer.

As for where Afellay would fit on the pitch for Liverpool, his natural position is probably in a free attacking role, though he's capable of playing on either wing.
