FORT MYERS, Fla. — Things are looking good for the Red Sox' skipper.
Sox manager Terry Francona will have a two-year option picked up following the 2011 season, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.
Francona, who told Heyman he is unaware of any such move, was given a three-year extension before the 2008 season that took him through 2011. The organization has options on 2012 and 2013 for a total of $8.75 million, and the club will reportedly exercise those options.
The 51-year-old Francona was first hired to a three-year deal in December 2003. He was eventually extended through 2008 and then received the latest three-year extension during spring training 2008. He will make $4 million this season, his eighth in Boston.
The news comes a few days after principal owner John Henry was asked about negotiations of an extension with general manager Theo Epstein, whose deal is reported to expire after 2011. Henry said that "things are going extremely well" with Epstein and that he didn't even know when the GM's contract was up.
