The league saw its first goalie fight in four years when Penguins netminder Brent Johnson challenged Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro on Feb. 2. Johnson skated into DiPietro's zone and dropped the Winthrop, Mass., native with one solid punch. DiPietro has since been moved to the IR with facial injuries.
No one was expecting another goalie fight so soon after the Johnson-DiPietro bout, but the Bruins and Canadiens delivered during their feisty matchup on Wednesday. During a wild shoving match midway through the second period, All-Star goaltenders Tim Thomas and Carey Price decided to square off as well, meeting in the Canadiens' offensive zone to duel.
While neither fight lasted very long, they both brought an exciting element to the game, proving that goalies are not afraid to get in the mix and drop the gloves.
