What Act in Sports Is Equivalent to Dunking a Basketball? The NBA slam dunk contest has become more of a corporate, over-the-top spectacle than show of pure athleticism, but that doesn’t mean the physical act of throwing down a basketball on a 10-foot rim is any less amazing.

Most people can’t dunk like Blake Griffin.

In fact, most people can’t dunk, period. Of the 6 billion people in the world, probably only around 1 percent can dunk, will dunk or have ever dunked a basketball on a regulation-size hoop in their lifetime. That’s 60 million people (a completely unscientific estimate) who have experienced the split-second harmonic conversion when mind, body, mind and soul come together as one to produce the ultimate spiritual high.

What act in sports is the equivalent of dunking a basketball? What requires tremendous hand-eye coordination, skill and natural ability? What brings about the feeling that all is right in the world — a sacred moment of perfection?

The wide world of sports offers presents limitless opportunities for an adrenaline rush — from hitting a hole in one to hitting a home run.

What physical feat do you think is in the same league as dunking a basketball?
