Earlier this week, a full-on Twitter battle erupted between Pulitzer Prize-winning author Buzz Bissinger and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
Cuban called Bissinger a coward. Bissinger then accused Cuban of having pajama parties with “other spoiled brats” like Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder, being unable to move his “fat-assed body” and a bevy of other insults.
The two agreed to meet at Tuesday night’s 76ers-Mavericks game in Philadelphia, but unfortunately for our entertainment, Bissinger and Cuban engaged in a cordial conversation.
“Mark Cuban and I met,” Bissinger tweeted on Wednesday morning. “His objection to column was in questioning the success of the NBA. Cordial, friendly. No fireworks. About 15 minutes. … Said to Cuban I was not a coward as he called me. He said he called me coward [because] it would set me off. We must have met in another life.”
The original issue appeared to have arisen because of Bissinger’s assertion in a Daily Beast column that white fans’ interest in the NBA was waning due to subtle yet pervasive racism. As it turns out, Cuban did not take any offense to the race discussion but instead simply felt that the league was in better shape than the picture that Bissinger painted.
“Cuban and I did not discuss issues of race in NBA,” Bissinger wrote. “He questioned attendance being down in past several years. … I didn’t sidestep the issue. Cuban said he did not care about the issue of race. No point pounding away.”
