A new poll says yes.
Jeter narrowly edged Babe Ruth in a poll conducted by the Siena College Research Institute, according to the New York Post, with the current Yankee garnering 14 percent of votes and the Bambino getting 11 percent.
The study showed that Jeter was significantly more popular among women, as he gained 17 percent of females' votes, compared to just 10 percent of men's votes.
The top five included Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and Joe Namath, while the study also showed that the Yankees are far and away New York's favorite team.
Jeter has a 211-game edge over the Babe in games played for the Yankees, and he has 418 more hits, gaps that will continue to grow over the next three years. Ruth trotted around the bases while wearing a Yankees uniform a few times more than Jeter — 425 times more, to be exact. But if there's one thing that might have made the decision easier for New Yorkers, it's that six-year stretch in which Ruth suited up for the Boston Red Sox.
