Top 10 Rule Changes in NHL History The NHL's general managers convened in Florida this week for their annual meetings. Atop their agenda were plenty of potential rule changes to consider, many dealing with the need to improve player safety and curb the rise of head injuries.

Rule changes are nothing new in the NHL. It's rare for a season to begin without at least a few tweaks to the rulebook, and many years, the game has been radically altered with new restrictions and guidelines. Some of those rules have greatly enhanced the sport, while others remain controversial for the changes they have brought.

This year's meetings wrapped up in Boca Raton on Wednesday. Time will tell whether the genesis of even more far-sweeping changes was made this week, but while we await what new rules could be implemented next, here's a look at the Top 10 most important rule changes in NHL history.
