Patriots fans will love this one. A member of the New York Jets has moved back home to live with his parents.
Jets left guard Matt Slauson has taken precautions in the event of a lockout, and with the intentions of saving money, Slauson, his wife and his baby relocated to his parents’ house, according to The New York Times.
In reality, Slauson’s frugal strategy is pretty smart, particularly with a family to look after. He was a sixth-round draft pick in 2009 and spent his rookie season as Alan Faneca‘s backup. In April 2010, the Jets used a second-round pick on UMass offensive lineman Vladimir Ducasse and cut Faneca.
Ducasse was expected to take over the starting job, which indicated the Jets weren’t very high on Slauson, but Slauson won the job anyway. But after the Jets made that investment on Ducasse, Slauson knows his starting status isn’t exactly solidified.
Slauson’s base salary was $310,000 in 2009 and $395,000 in 2010, and he’s on the books for $480,000 in 2011 and $565,000 in 2012. Obviously, Slauson was worried about losing that revenue in the event of a lockout.
Now, he might have to worry about hearing about that from the Jets’ rival fan bases.
