Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, who has been sidelined with a groin injury, could be out for another month following surgery on his groin.

Liverpool said on Friday that the surgery was successful, and the decision for surgery was made "following consultation with a specialist."

The 30-year-old midfielder will miss key matches against opponents such as Sunderland and Manchester City, as Liverpool attempts to rise from its sixth-place spot in the standings.

Gerrard is speculated to have suffered the injury during Liverpool's victory over Chelsea on Feb. 6 at Stamford Bridge.
