The New York Yankees' All-Star first baseman has dropped Scott Boras as his agent, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. Hoch went on to say that Teixeira, whose contract runs through 2016, "said he wants to focus more on helping Yankees win and impact in [the] community, not [his] next contract. [He] feels Boras isn't [the] best fit for that."
According to Wallace Matthews of ESPN.com, Teixeira said that his relationship with Boras "had run its course."
Boras had been Teixeira's agent since negotiating the fifth overall pick's four-year, $9.5 million dollar deal with the Texas Rangers in 2001. After the 2008 season, Boras negotiated his current eight-year, $180 million dollar contract, in which the Red Sox and Yankees were pitted against each other, ultimately leaving Sox ownership angry over the agent's handling of the negotiations.
Teixeira told The Associated Press that "he had a great relationship business-wise with Boras," but that it was time for a change and he has not yet selected a new agent.
In the past year, Boras has seen considerable turnover in his clientele. Teixeira joins a list of players that includes teammate Alex Rodriguez to say that their relationship with Boras "has run its course." However, Rafael Soriano and Robinson Cano have filled the void left by Teixeira and ARod, signing on with the agent this year.
