The MIT Engineers are headed for the NCAA Division III Tournament for the third consecutive season.

The Cardinal and Grey earned their second conference title in three years, upsetting the NEWMAC top seed and tournament host WPI on Sunday as they posted a 63-52 victory in the championship game. The win was the first for MIT over WPI this year, as they dropped both contests during the regular season.

The win secured the Engineers' bid to the NCAA tournament, where they'll square off against host Ithaca College on Friday in the opening round of the four-team regional competition.

Sophomore forward Will Tashman was named the Most Outstanding Player in the NEWMAC tournament, as he posted double-doubles in both matchups against WPI and Springfield College. Tashman shot 100 percent from the line during the tournament, sinking 16 free throws.

The Engineers have a tough matchup ahead of them in Ithaca. The 20-6 Bombers are led by the Empire 8 Player of the Year in senior Phil Barera. The standout center averages 17 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

The Engineers will face off against the Bombers on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
