Thursday's upset of the day all started with a dream.
Morehead State head coach Donnie Tyndall had a vivid dream the night before his NCAA Tournament matchup against tournament veteran Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals. The coach shared that vision with his team, and senior Demonte Harper made it a reality.
The guard took his time when he was given the ball with six seconds to go, dribbled to just outside the arc and swished a 3-pointer with 4.2 seconds remaining in regulation, giving the Eagles a 62-61 lead over the No. 4-seeded Cardinals.
Louisville had a chance to tie the game on their end, but Morehead's star center Kenneth Faried blocked the corner attempt by Mike Marra to solidify the unbelievable victory and the largest upset of the day.
Morehead came in as the No. 13 seed, and knew plenty about their in-state competition — a team that has won 60 NCAA tournament games, including eight final four appearances and two national championships. The upset was the first main-draw win for Morehead State since 1984.
At the end of the day, it wasn't one star that lifted the team to victory — it was the entire team that worked hard to overcome a tough deficit and found the chance to make one last play to seal the victory.
"I don't think there was any luck involved," Tyndall said. "We were just very, very fortunate to make one more play than they did."
