Safety Bob Sanders is spending Wednesday in New York meeting with the Jets, a league source told NFL.com's Jason La Canfora.
The 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year has also visited with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills since being released by the Indianapolis Colts on February 19th, says La Canforda.
After signing a five-year, $37.5 million contract with the Colts prior to the 2008 season, Sanders played in just nine regular-season games over the next three seasons. It's still possible Sanders could return to the Colts at a reduced price.
Sanders' stats, when healthy, warranted two Pro-Bowl appearances for the safety.
In 2005, Sanders emerged as a legitimate NFL star, playing in 14 games. In 2006, a knee injury cut his number of games to four, but he played in all four playoff games as the Colts won the Super Bowl. In 2007, it appeared that Sanders' injury issues may have become a thing of the past, as he played in 15 games and earned the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year Award. However, injury issues allowed him to play just six games in 2008 season, and in 2009, he sat out the first five games after having surgery on his knee. In just his second game after returning, he tore the biceps muscle in his left arm and missed the rest of the season.
The 2010 season lasted just one series for Sanders, who promptly tore his right bicep and saw himself once again sidelined for the remainder of the season.
If the safety can stay healthy and return to his 2007 form, a secondary consisting of Darrelle Revis and Sanders would give Rex Ryan plenty to work with.
In a career full of "what ifs," Sanders has racked up 291 tackles, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and six interceptions in seven seasons spent mostly in the trainer's room.
