It's the first full day of spring, and there has already been snow in Boston and draft-day trade rumors involving the Patriots.
Bill Belichick has never been shy about trading picks, and he routinely says he talks with teams about draft-day trades, whether they're his picks or another team's. He has also said that discussions very rarely lead to actual trades. More than anything, it's just to get a feel for what picks might be available, as well as their price.
Therefore, it's not surprising to hear the Patriots are "interested" in trading away the 28th pick in next month's draft. Common sense suggests Belichick would trade any of his picks if he believed he was improving his value, and the report does not indicate whether or not the Patriots are trying to use that pick to trade up or down in the draft.
It would also be surprising if the Patriots acted quickly on any such trade. Unless another team bowls them over with a huge offer — that is completely unlikely five weeks before the draft — Belichick would naturally prefer to use the offer as leverage to land something greater. And of course, it would make more sense to see how the first round shakes out before unloading one of his top assets.
