Red Sox Option Lars Anderson to Pawtucket, Assign Juan Carlos Linares to Minor League Camp FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Red Sox optioned first baseman Lars Anderson to Triple-A Pawtucket and reassigned outfielder Juan Carlos Linares to the team's minor league camp after Thursday's 8-5 win over the New York Mets.

Anderson has hit .161 (5-for-31) with two home runs in 13 games this spring. He batted .262 with 10 homers in 113 games last year at Pawtucket.

The 23-year-old showcased a vastly improved glove this spring. The hope is that some more at-bats at the minor league level will help him blossom with the bat as well.

"He just needs repetition, and that's what we told him," manager Terry Francona said. "I think he's disappointed because he's come into camp and he's not really knocked the ball all over the ballpark. And we tried to reassure him that what he does during the regular season, that will show what kind of hitter he is."

Linares takes a .320 (8-for-25) average to the minor league camp and a healthy dose of respect from the major league staff.

"Linares is really interesting," Francona said. "We didn't know him very well. He can play all three outfield positions, he's very aggressive at the plate and he hustles on every ball that's in play. Pretty exciting guy."

Linares, 26, got into just 17 games last year (13 at Double-A Portland) after signing with the organization as a free agent.
