Liverpool's need for a new left back and Everton's financial woes loom as major plot lines for summer transfer activity, and it now appears that the two stories may become one, as Liverpool is reportedly planning to deal a crushing blow to their rivals with a £10 million bid for Leighton Baines.

The 26-year-old Baines has emerged in the wake of his England World Cup snub as perhaps the league's top left back this season, contributing 11 assists and two goals for the Toffees while earning a place in Fabio Capello's squad as well.

According to Club Call, Liverpool would be willing to offer £10 million for Baines, a number that David Moyes may not be able to resist if he wants to keep Jack Rodwell and Marouane Fellaini at Goodison Park.

Baines, though, is just the newest in a lengthy litany of left backs linked to Liverpool, with Fabio Coentrao the headliner of the bunch.
