Yankees general manager Brian Cashman's pursuit of another starting pitcher may be taking him to the Windy City.
According to ESPN.com, the Yankees, along with the Nationals have been actively scouting Cubs pitcher Carlos Silva recently.
Of course, neither team will be making an aggressive push for the 31-year-old right-hander if he continues pitching the way he has been this spring. Silva's made three starts this spring, and they've been forgettable. In 8 1/3 innings of work, he's allowed 15 runs on 18 hits. Opponents are hitting a staggering .439 off of him.
Not only that, Silva recently got into a fight in the dugout with Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez. The situation seems to be resolved for now, but it's likely the type of thing that would turn clubs away.
His most recent start, on Saturday, however, was his "best" of the spring. With interested teams looking on, Silva gave up four runs on five hits in five innings of work against the Reds.
Silva went 10-6 last year, a record helped by the fact that he won his first eight decisions, including a stretch in which he won six consecutive starts. He's set to make $12 million in 2011.
