Yankees Hoping Escaped Poisonous Egyptian Cobra From Bronx Zoo Doesn’t Disrupt Opening Day

The Yankees open their season against the Detroit Tigers at the new Yankee Stadium on March 31. But another visitor could be crashing the party.

A poisonous Egyptian cobra escaped from the Bronx Zoo on Sunday and is still on the loose, the New York Daily News reports.

In fact, the 20-inch snake has opened a Twitter account (@BronxZoosCobra already boasts almost 10,000 followers) and is enjoying life on the town while the rest of Gotham rests uneasy. According to CNN.com, the cobra’s venom can kill an elephant in three hours and a human in about 15 minutes.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman is beginning to wonder if the crafty reptile can fill out the back of New York’s rotation.
