Are You Worried About the Red Sox’ Rough Start?

Are You Worried About the Red Sox' Rough Start? One of the last things Boston fans were expecting to see this season was an 0-6 start from the Red Sox. After an offseason full of blockbuster trades and a spring training where baseball experts across the country were predicting American League East and World Series championships, no one saw the back-to-back sweeps coming.

But here we are. The Red Sox remain one of just three major league teams without a win this season, and nothing seems to be coming together for this talented roster. On top of that, the Red Sox have to try and bounce back against the rivaled Yankees in front of an expectant crowd at Fenway Park. So, are you worried yet?

There have been plenty of statistics and headlines that have definitely caused worry in many fans across New England. This is the worst start for the Red Sox since World War II, when the 1945 Red Sox went 0-8 to start the season. That team finished the year with a 71-83 record, good enough for seventh place in the AL.

There’s another haunting statistic that is bothersome to Red Sox fans. No team that has started the year 0-4 has gone on to win a World Series. The Red Sox are highly favored to bring home the trophy this season, but now the numbers are against them.

Then again, it’s important to remember just how long the baseball season is. Yes, this current rough stretch is maddening, but this Red Sox club is too talented to not bounce back into favor. The Red Sox have too much going for them to continue on this winless streak.

And even though no World Series team has ever started the season with this kind of losing record, there have been plenty of great baseball teams that have gone through slumps in their championship seasons, and if any team can bounce back from this 0-6 deficit, it’s the 2011 Red Sox.
