Mariners fans attending games at Safeco Field this year won’t have to go too far to get a few cold ones. While not having to leave one’s seat for a pop is nothing new for fans, here’s what is: Kevin Zelko, a 36-year-old beer vendor (who teaches during the “offseason,” if you will), now takes orders via Twitter.
“I deliver and hock beers up & down the aisles at Safeco. I will hand deliver to you if Tweet me your order! Tweet me your seat number & order (Lower Level only),” his Twitter page explains.
He claims to sell about 80 beers during an average home game and pulls in about $125. On weekends, he can sell more than 100 beers and pull in closer to $200.
“Since the beginning of beer vendors, we’ve been walking up and down the aisles seeing who wants a beer, I’m going to try to change that,” Zelko told CNBC.
Will Fenway beer vendors hop aboard the tweet train? Leave your thoughts below.
“The year in Anaheim, I talked about it with my wife. We were going to try one more team and if I didn’t make it, that was probably going to be it. If it had been [playing in] Portland all year, I would have really had to evaluate what I was going to do. I was 29 years old, and 600 or whatever games is a lot to play down there [in the AHL]. It can wear on you. So I’m very fortunate that a team gave me a break and it’s been awesome ever since. My whole career has been great, but the last five years have been a dream come true.”

And all they “need to do is show a little class, a little sophistication, and [they’re] in like a dirty shirt.”
