Dirk Kuyt Signs One-Year Extension With Liverpool to Remain at Anfield Until 2013

Following Dirk Kuyt's five goals in his last six games, including a hat-trick against Manchester United, Liverpool decided to reward its 30-year-old midfielder with a contract extension.

According to ESPN.com, Kuyt has agreed to a one-year contract extension through 2013.

The Netherlands star has been with Liverpool since 2006, and he certainly is happy to remain at Anfield.

"I am very happy. We have spent a long time [in discussions] but always with the intention to reach an agreement," Kuyt said. "All the conversations were conducted in a friendly atmosphere. It fits perfectly with the feeling I got at this club. Since the day I first walked in, I felt welcome. That feeling has never left.''

Kuyt's all-around contributions and work ethic are highly praised by the Reds and their supporters. Manager Kenny Dalglish added that his player "never gives up" and "fights with everything."

In 27 games this season in the Premier League, Kuyt has scored nine goals, recorded five assists and has taken 50 shots. Last summer, the midfielder helped Netherlands reach the FIFA World Cup final, scoring once on 12 shots and recording three assists.
