Does Dennis Rodman Deserve to Be Enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame? Dennis Rodman averaged 7.3 points per game for his career. He was never better than the third-best player on his team and was only an All-Star twice. At this point, he's best known for his bad movies and ridiculous off-court behavior.

Then again, he also has five NBA championships, multiple with two different teams, and has the highest rebounding percentage in the history of the NBA. He even won NBA Defensive Player of the Year twice, and was the NBA rebounding champion seven times — also the number of All-Defensive First Teams he made.

So, is Dennis Rodman worthy of the Hall of Fame?

Rodman announced on Friday, as his jersey was being retired by the Detroit Pistons, that he had been elected to the Hall, but for all of the aforementioned reasons, his election is a rather contentious one.

Rodman, though, was surely a unique and transcendent talent. His rebounding numbers are simply unlike any else seen in modern basketball, such as his 18.7 RPG in 1991-92, and he did so while standing just 6-foot-6. Rodman, in fact, has five of the best eight rebounding seasons in the modern era, with the other three posted by Moses Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabar and Elvin Hayes — all clear Hall of Famers.

Basically, the argument comes down to one simple premise. If championships, defense and rebounding make one worthy of the Hall, Rodman should be in. If it's about scoring, being one of the league's best players at the time and high moral fiber, then Rodman probably doesn't make the cut.
