Top 10 Bench Players in Celtics Playoff History Include Glen Davis, James Posey and Bill Walton After three games of lying in wait, the Celtics’ bench finally came to life on Sunday afternoon in Game 4 against the Knicks, enabling the C’s to finish off a first-round series sweep. Boston got 14 points from Glen Davis, seven rebounds from Jeff Green, some rugged play from Delonte West and even some life from Nenad Krstic.

That’s a good sign for them going forward. You need a bench to go far in the postseason — five guys can’t do the job alone, even if they’re Hall of Famers. It takes 16 wins to reach the top of the mountain, and at least once you need a guy from your second unit to be your first star.

The Celtics have proven that in the past, in fact. Time and again we’ve seen Celtic legends made as bench guys, not as members of the starting five.
