Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis left Thursday night's game in Anaheim after fouling a ball off his left foot.

Youkilis was replaced at third base by Jed Lowrie, who started the game at shortstop. Marco Scutaro was inserted into the game at shortstop and assumed Youkilis' cleanup spot in the lineup.

The injury occurred when Youkilis came to the plate in the top of the first inning with runners on first and second. He fouled a Tyler Chatwood delivery off his foot and walked around in pain before grounding into a double play moments later.

Youkilis played the bottom of the first inning in the field. He did not have any chances.

There was no immediate word from the team on the injury. Second baseman Dustin Pedroia suffered a broken foot last June in a very similar scenario.
