Patriots Select Cornerback Ras-I Dowling With 33rd Pick in NFL Draft

There was plenty of speculation about which way the Patriots would go with the 33rd pick of the NFL draft. Some expected the Pats to trade the pick, but instead Bill Belichick and his staff bolstered the secondary.

New England selected defensive back Ras-I Dowling with the first selection of the second round on Friday night. Dowling, a cornerback from Virginia only played in five games during the 2010 season with the Cavaliers.

The 6-foot-1, 198-pound corner was riddled by injuries during his senior season at UVA, but he was an All-ACC selection in 2008 and 2009.

Dowling is considered a good athlete when healthy, and he also contributed on special teams at Virginia.
