Many in the Boston area were likely rooting for the Patriots to take Boston College product Mark Herzlich with their last pick, but they instead sought help in their secondary, selecting TCU defensive back Malcolm Williams.

Williams played in junior college before heading to TCU in 2009. He started off primarily as a special teams player and a safety, but he has since evolved into a cornerback.

Williams is the fifth TCU player selected in the 2011 draft, and his solid performance on pro day likely increased his draft stock.
