The Red Sox activated right-handed reliever Matt Albers from the 15-day disabled list prior to Thursday's series opener in Anaheim. Fellow righty Alfredo Aceves was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room on the 25-man roster.

Albers was placed on the DL on April 8 (retroactive to April 6) with a strained right latissimus. In two rehab appearances with Triple-A Pawtucket, he threw three scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Prior to that, the 28-year-old had two scoreless innings and three Ks for the Red Sox.

Aceves, 29, gave up two earned runs in eight innings over the course of six relief outings for the Red Sox since being recalled to take Albers' place. He will re-enter the PawSox rotation and get stretched out upon his return to the minors.
