There are some who believe Opening Day is its own sacred event in and of itself. They believe a series with the hated Yankees should be special in its own right, and the two events should never overlap.
Dan Shaughnessy, however, is not one of those folks.
“I don’t mind it myself,” Shaughnessy said on Red Sox GameDay LIVE Presented by UNO. “[In 2004] they came here, and the rings were handed out with the Yankees on the other side of the field, the whole Mariano Rivera [getting an ovation from the Fenway crowd]. Those are good memories for me.”
