The New York Jets know they are in danger of losing a large portion of their receiving corps to free agency. They also know that Randy Moss is interested in returning to their bitter rivals in New England. Accordingly, there are reports by several sources inside the league that have confirmed that the Jets themselves are after the 34-year-old receiver.

NFL senior columnist Vic Carucci reports that the Jets think there is a real possibility in signing Moss. Most importantly, if the Jets free-agent receivers Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards and Brad Smith decide to leave, Moss could fill the void. Plus, they could block the Patriots from bringing him back.

Jets head coach Rex Ryan recently spoke about how Moss puts pressure on secondaries as a legitimate vertical threat.

Hearsay doesn't have much weight at this point in the offseason — especially given the labor situation — but Holmes has said that he would only stay in New York for a long-term contract, which could make signing Moss a necessary gamble.
