Today, NESN reaches more than 4 million homes on a regional and national level, but 25 years ago, it was just a small television station looking to break into the New England sports scene.
NESN was in its second year in 1986, and it was during that year that a young pitcher on the Boston Red Sox made baseball history. Roger Clemens struck out 20 Mariners on April 29, 1986, and had thousands of Red Sox fans, diehard and casual alike, glued to the television screen.
Clemens' performance drew many followers to this new channel called NESN, and fans kept coming back for each of his outings, hoping to see a similar performance from the Rocket.
Check out the video above to hear several prominent New England media members, including Jack Edwards and Bob Ryan, recall the 20-strikeout performance and its impact on NESN and the city of Boston.
