There are some things in life that are much bigger than baseball.
Phillies starter Roy Oswalt has left the team to be with his family in Mississippi, according to the Philadeplhia Enquirer.
Mississippi has been hit with a severe amount of tornado activity lately, resulting in several deaths and significant damage across the region.
Phillies' GM Ruben Amaro Jr. released a statement from the team on Wednesday, saying "There has been a tremendous amount of tornado activity near Roy's home in Mississippi.
"Roy is concerned about his family's well-being. He has chosen to take time to make sure there wasn't significant damage to his home, but more importantly, to make certain that his wife and children are okay."
This is not the first time severe weather has pulled Oswalt out of the lineup in order to return to his hometown. Last April, the pitcher returned home when his parents' house in Weir, Miss., was destroyed by a tornado.
Oswalt is not expected to miss his next start for Philadelphia, despite this news.
