It’s not all that often that Sean Avery plays the victim card, but in the midst of the Rangers’ Game 5 elimination at the hands of the Capitals, that’s exactly what occurred — and in bizarre fashion.
Avery claimed that he got Mike Tyson-ed.
During a second period scuffle, Avery and Brooks Laich tangled, and when all was said and done, Avery emerged from the scrum with a pained look on his face and complained to the nearby referee that he had been bitten.
“[Avery’s] fingers were in my mouth, and I remember thinking about that, that I’m not [going to be] stupid about biting a player. He was trying to eye gouge me, he was sticking his fingers in my mouth. But that play happened to me where somebody bit me and I thought it was a low, disrespectful, gutless play, and I’m not gonna do that,” said Laich, according to the Washington Post.
The video evidence shows Avery pushing Laich’s head downwards, with no biting evident.
