Shaquille O'Neal Watches Practice, Remains Questionable for Game 1 Against Knicks Shaquille O'Neal was back on the practice floor for the Celtics on Friday afternoon, but he didn't play a lick. The 39-year-old center was all decked out in gym shorts and a green practice jersey, but he spent the full two-hour session watching from the sidelines.

"He watched the entire practice," coach Doc Rivers said. "We knew that. We planned that. Tomorrow, we'll see what he can do. He did some of the walkthrough stuff, but I just don't want to take a chance. We'll find out tomorrow.

"He'll practice tomorrow, hopefully, and we'll make a decision after that."

Saturday is the Celtics' final practice before their 7 p.m. tipoff Sunday against the Knicks. At the moment, it's unclear whether Shaq will be able to return. Game 1 has been his target all along, but the clock's ticking, and he still has no practice time under his belt.

Shaq's last two days have been the same — watching film, putting on a practice uniform, doing walkthroughs and not a lot else. The Celtics have been forced to make contingency plans in case the big man can't play.

"If he can't go, we've got other guys," Rivers said. "If he can go, it helps us. I literally have two plans. With our staff, we told them to prepare two plans. That's how we're doing it."

As for the other 14 guys on the Celtics' roster, all are good to go. That includes Delonte West, who's missed a lot of time the last two months with a sprained ankle.

"Delonte's fine," Rivers said. "Everybody else is fine. We're 100 percent except for Shaq. So everybody else is pretty good, and that's good."
