We've only seen less than five percent or so of the Major League Baseball season, but so far, things are looking pretty upside-down in the AL East standings.
The Orioles sit atop the AL East standings as they split a doubleheader on Saturday with the red-hot Texas Rangers. That split leaves them at 6-2 on the young season. Perhaps recharged by Buck Showalter and an impressive young pitching staff, Baltimore has jumped out to an early lead. It probably won't last much longer, but it's still impressive all the same.
In Toronto, John Farrell has the Blue Jays off to a hot start this year, too. Farrell has apparently decided to leave Cito Gatson's "swing from the heels" approach to hitting as the Jays are launching balls all over the yard on the way to a 5-2 record entering Sunday.
The Yankees have been up and down, but will no doubt be a contender all year long. The Rays, on the other hand, have stumbled mightily out of the gate and will not be without the services of Manny Ramirez for the rest of the year. They may or may not miss his .059 average.
Then, as you might have heard, the Red Sox are struggling early on. In fact, struggling may be putting it lightly. Another ugly loss on Saturday has the Sox at 1-7 on the young season, with CC Sabathia waiting for them on Sunday night at Fenway Park.
If you were to ask the question as to who will win this year's AL East just two weeks ago, the answers may be a bit different than they are now. Then again, it's still early, and teams like New York, Boston and even Tampa have plenty of firepower for the rest of the season.
But, while you can't win the division in April, but sometimes, you can lose it.
