PHILADELPHIA — After dropping the first game of their opening-round series with Montreal at home, the Bruins faced a seemingly must-win situation in Game 2.
And they had to enter that game without their captain and top defenseman, as Zdeno Chara was hospitalized the night before for dehydration and was unable to play after trying to skate in warm-ups. The Bruins went on to lose 3-1, but rallied for four wins in the next five games to advance past Montreal.
Now it appears that the Bruins will find themselves on the other side of that scenario. After being beaten 7-3 by the Bruins in Game 1 of their second-round series on Saturday, the Flyers will have to play Game 2 on Monday night without Chris Pronger as they look to even the series against Boston.
Pronger missed the final 16 games of the regular season and first five games of Philadelphia's opening round series with Buffalo after hand surgery, but returned in Game 6 and helped the Flyers post back-to-back wins to oust the Sabres in seven games.
He was in the lineup again on Saturday, but left the ice late in the third period. He also did not participate in the team's morning skate on Monday, and Monday evening was ruled out for Game 2 by the team.
Pronger is officially listed as being out with an "undisclosed injury." It is not known if it is related to his earlier hand problems or a separate injury suffered on Saturday.
Danny Syvret is expected to take his place in the lineup. Syvret played in all seven games against Buffalo, with no points and a minus-2 rating. He was a healthy scratch on Saturday.
