The Red Sox on Sunday placed left-handed reliever Franklin Morales on the 15-day disabled list with a left forearm strain and recalled right-hander Michael Bowden.

Morales had pitched just twice since being acquired in a trade with Colorado on May 19. He gave up four runs — two earned — in three innings of work. His move to the DL gives Boston one lefty in its bullpen in advance of a day-night doubleheader.

Bowden was up for a quick stint earlier this month but did not get into a game. He is 2-2 with a 6.69 ERA in 23 games (two starts) for Boston since 2008. Since returning to the PawSox on May 20, Bowden has allowed nine runs in 3 1/3 innings.
