Wednesday was supposed to be a super day for Clippers superstar Blake Griffin, as he was honored as the NBA’s rookie of the year. Sports Show host Norm MacDonald, however, couldn’t help but infuse a little comedy into the day.

During Griffin’s news conference, MacDonald grabbed a microphone. Immediately, the moderator was suspicious, asking if this was “a really good question.”

“It’s a question from Blake’s good friend, Norm,” MacDonald said. “Blake, it was fun watching you this year, wasn’t it cool? I was wondering, there’s kind of a curse with rookie of the year. Nobody has ever repeated it.”

Griffin took it in stride.

“I didn’t think about that,” said Griffin, who appeared in a segment on MacDonald’s show in April. “Well, I’ll try as hard as I can next year, but … I don’t know. I don’t know. Thank you for that question, though. That’s going on top of the goals for next year.”

Quote of the day

“We’re trying to keep that out of our mind. It’s a brand new year. We have a new team here. Half the team is new guys. It’s a new season, so we’re not worried about that at all. We’re writing our own new chapter.”
