Former Bears safety Dave Duerson, who committed suicide in February, suffered from brain damage, according to the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy at Boston University’s School of Medicine.
Dr. Robert Cantu, the co-director at the center, announced the findings on Monday, according to The Associated Press, and added that the Duerson family asked to have the results released earlier than normal, given the circumstances.
Duerson was 50 years old at the time of his suicide and had not shown previous signs of suicidal tendencies.
The center has been working on ways to reduce concussion and concussion syndrome side effects, primarily in football.
